Satellite Communications, available on our GSA SChedule
INMARSAT
These products are based on the Inmarsat satellite constellations. The Inmarsat-3 network consists of four
satellites that are in geosynchronous orbit 22,500 miles above the Equator, plus one spare. In addition to one
global beam each, the satellites use spot beams, enabling power concentration on 96 percent of the land mass
as well as the most frequently used flight routes. The result is a significant reduction of the terminal power
consumption and overall size.
B-GAN
In May of 2005, the next-generation Inmarsat-4 satellites began launch and integration into the Broadband
Global Area Network (B-GAN). These new satellites allow full use of service where previous spot beam coverage
was available, greatly engancing access to the B-GAN. There will be another Inmarsat-4 satellite put into
service later this year. Not only will these satellites expand coverage, but they are 60 times more powerful,
have 25 times the receiver sensitivity, 16 times the capacity, and and are 12 times more efficient in use of the
radio spectrum. Full utilization of the B-GAN will yield internet and intranet solutions, video on demand,
video-conferencing, fax, e-mail, telephone and high-speed LAN access from anywhere in the world, on the
ground or in the air.
